The Las Vegas shooter fully planned to commit the act at a mixed EDM concert LIB two weeks earlier, and had even rented the room he was doing it from. As a society, we have already drawn the line at fully automatic weapons. Two things can be simultaneously true, mentally Ill persons commit such acts, but the lethality of the weapons amplifies the carnage. The Las Vegas shooting, with the most people hit of any incident in history simply could not have happened without shooting high powered semi-automatic weapons, bump stock modified, from over a mile away. The lethality of weaponry is a factor and can be controlled. The reality is undeniable and seemingly never discussed. Entire process took less than 10 minutes, and we even made comments after about the volume of drugs that must make it right past the dogs and sheriff's. He didn't stop or even guide the dog to try sniffing inside of the vehicle. I assume he reads people and searches more thoroughly based on interaction, but when he swept with the dog he just made a quick 360 with our side door open. He kept trying to convince me to tell him I had something else, you know one last chance guys is the dog gonna find anything? Explosives, narcotics, firearms or munitions. We opened all of our backpacks and totes that were openly visible for the officer who stepped inside. We showed them prescriptions/our marijuana and THC products, our alcohol stash. As I’ve aged, we’ve invested in Terrace camping or Wild Horse and I’ll never ever go back, but everyone should be able to feel that level of security & safety when experiencing the Gorge. Fest (RIP - some of THE best 3 & 4-day weekends of all of life), (pre-)Paradiso (also RIP □□□ met one of my bestest friends the first year I ever went & he’s now loving husband/father to my other bestie’s baby), whatever new edm specific weekenders came after paradiso… my last shows were 2018 until I made the trek back from current home in CA for Fred again. Cool & all, glad I made the trek for odesza, but it’ll need to be someone real special to draw me back out to those random ass rocks □ esp since I’ve more recently gone to the Grand Canyon & I’d rather see those & then another venue vs. I’ve seen my favorite all time artists (odesza) for my one Red Rocks show.
